The metal value of any gold bracelet comes from three numbers multiplied together:
Weight (grams) × purity fraction × current gold price per gram = metal value
We weigh every bracelet to 0.01g on calibrated scales and confirm the carat by hallmark or non-invasive XRF testing, using the published LBMA daily gold price (verifiable at lbma.org.uk) as our reference. On top of that metal floor we assess any premium for charms, a recognised maker, an antique design worth reselling whole, or set stones — and offer the higher of melt or resale. The method and the figures are recorded in your written valuation.
Two bracelets can look identical and be worth very different amounts. Many curb, tube and "puffed" bracelets are hollow — genuine gold, but with far less metal than a solid bracelet of the same dimensions. A chunky-looking hollow bracelet may weigh a fraction of a slim solid one. We value the actual recoverable gold, never the apparent bulk, so a hollow piece is priced honestly on what it truly contains.

These are approximate metal rates with no premium. A charm bracelet, an antique gate bracelet, a signed piece or a gem-set bracelet will usually be offered above these figures.
A charm bracelet is where a routine "weigh and melt" costs sellers the most. The bracelet itself is often a heavy 9ct curb link with real metal value, but the charms are the story. Individual gold charms — a spinning roulette wheel, an enamelled flag, a articulated moving windmill, a hallmarked disc engraved with a date — frequently sell to collectors for multiples of their gold weight. Some vintage and mid-century charms are actively sought in their own right.
A 9ct charm bracelet with twenty charms might scale up to, say, £600 of gold. Sold that way, that is all you would receive. But if six of those charms are collectable enamel and novelty pieces worth £40–£120 each to a collector, the bracelet is worth meaningfully more assessed properly than melted. Victorian and Edwardian gate bracelets — the expanding gate-link design with a heart-shaped padlock clasp and a fine safety chain — are consistently in demand as wearable antiques, and a good example is usually worth more whole than melted. The same is true of hand-made Byzantine and fancy-link bracelets, and of anything carrying a recognised maker's mark. We identify the period, design and maker, and where a piece has genuine resale value we tell you and price accordingly rather than defaulting to scrap weight.
On a tennis bracelet or any gem-set bracelet the gold and the stones are two separate values. A line of good-quality or certified diamonds is generally worth far more kept than lost in a melt, so we assess the stones on their own merits alongside the gold mount and present both figures. A broken clasp, a snapped link or a stretched, tired bracelet does not lose its gold value, and on many pieces a modest repair returns more than a melt. On bracelets the hallmark is often not on the links at all — check the clasp tongue, the padlock, the safety-chain fitting or a single stamped link.
