You do not need to head into the city centre or travel down to London to reach a national watch buyer. Fair Vintage is a UK-wide postal buyer: request a free insured label, send your watch when it suits you, and receive a written valuation from a specialist.
Omega, Cartier, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Longines, IWC, vintage and micro-brand pieces — each one valued individually. Free insured postage. Written valuation per watch. Paid in 72 hours.
Manchester and the wider North West have a healthy second-hand watch market. Between city-centre dealers, the trade around the Northern Quarter, pawnbrokers and regional auction houses, there are plenty of places to sell. All of them are legitimate routes, and it is always worth comparing.
What a postal specialist changes is the effort and the pressure. There is no need to book an appointment, park in the city, carry something valuable through town, or make a decision on the spot in a shop — and no need to travel down to London to reach a national buyer. You request a label, send the watch, and read a written valuation in your own time. If you decide not to sell, the watch comes back to you, insured, at no cost.
Omega, Cartier, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Tudor, IWC, Longines, Breitling and similar. Boxed or unboxed, running or not, with or without papers.
Mid-century and earlier wristwatches, gold and silver-cased pieces, and pocket watches. Hallmarks on precious-metal cases are read as part of the assessment.
Seiko and Grand Seiko, Christopher Ward, and independent micro-brands. Single watches and whole collections are equally welcome.
Manchester does not have an assay office of its own. That is not a problem: if your watch has a gold or silver case, it will carry the town mark of whichever UK office assayed it — the leopard's head of London, the anchor of Birmingham, the rose of Sheffield, or the castle of Edinburgh. These are the four assay offices still operating in the UK.
Alongside the town mark you will usually find a fineness mark for the metal and a date letter. Together they can confirm the metal and give a good indication of when the case was hallmarked. You do not need to identify them yourself. Photograph any marks inside the case back or on the lugs as clearly as you can, and we read them as part of the written valuation.
A hallmark tells you where and roughly when a case was assayed, and to what fineness of metal. It does not, on its own, establish the value of the watch — movement, model, condition and originality all matter. We weigh the evidence together and explain what it supports in writing.
Every watch is assessed individually rather than lumped into a single offer. The main things we look at are:
A few clear photographs make a preliminary view much easier before anything is posted:
Please do not open the case yourself, polish the watch, or have it serviced first. Original, unpolished condition is usually preferable, and we assess the watch exactly as it is.
Dial, case back, any numbers and hallmarks, plus box and papers. Email us first if you would like a preliminary view before sending.
We email a free prepaid, tracked and insured label the same working day. Drop the parcel at any Royal Mail or DPD point in Greater Manchester. Insured to £5,000 from the first scan.
Your parcel is opened and documented with photographs. The watch's condition is documented on camera before any specialist handles it.
Each watch valued individually, in writing. Accept what you want to sell; we return the rest free. Paid in 72 hours or +3%.

Get your free label →No. Fair Vintage is a postal buying service, not a Manchester high-street shop or walk-in valuation office. That is deliberate: instead of travelling into the city centre or down to London, you request a free insured label, post your watch when it suits you, and receive a written valuation. There is no premises to visit and no appointment to book.
Your parcel is tracked and insured to £5,000 from the moment the courier scans it, both on the way to us and on the way back. You drop it at any Royal Mail or DPD point across Greater Manchester — there are hundreds — or we can discuss a collection for higher-value items. Nothing about the process requires you to carry a watch into the city by hand.
Manchester has its own second-hand watch and jewellery trade, and there are dealers and auction houses across the North West. Those are all valid routes. The difference with Fair Vintage is that you get a written, itemised valuation without a shop visit or same-day pressure to decide, your watch is opened and documented with photographs, and anything you decline is returned free. You also do not need to travel down to London to reach a national buyer. Compare offers before you accept — there is no obligation.
It does not matter at all. There is no assay office in Manchester, so a gold or silver case will carry the town mark of whichever UK office assayed it — London, Birmingham, Sheffield or Edinburgh. The mark tells us where and roughly when the case was hallmarked and to what fineness. Just photograph any marks clearly and we read them as part of the written valuation.
The same range we buy nationwide: Omega, Cartier, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Longines, IWC, Tudor, Seiko and Grand Seiko, Christopher Ward, pocket watches, vintage and micro-brand pieces, and watches you cannot identify. Single watches and whole collections are welcome. If you are unsure whether a watch is worth sending, email a photograph first.
Make, model, movement, condition and originality all assessed. Written valuation per watch. Opened and documented. Paid within 72 hours. No need to leave home.
