Tag Heuer occupies an interesting position in the secondary market. Modern references are widely available and trade at modest premiums, but vintage Heuer — the Carrera, Monaco, and Autavia from the 1960s and 70s — is among the most actively collected and appreciated of all Swiss sports watch categories. We value both, individually and honestly.
The original Carrera (1963–1985, ref. 2447, 3647, 1153) is one of the great vintage chronograph designs. Modern Carrera references also traded. Vintage with correct pushers and original dials are particularly valuable.
The square-case chronograph made famous by Steve McQueen. Vintage Heuer Monaco (ref. 1133B, 1133G) commands strong collector premiums. Modern Monaco also accepted. The 'McQueen' blue dial is most sought-after.
The dashboard/automobile chronograph with rotating bezel. The early 'ringed' dials and Jo Siffert Autavia are particularly collected. A range from highly affordable to several thousand pounds for fine examples.
The distinctive 'cushion-case' design. Original condition examples have a strong following among vintage sports watch collectors. Less common than the Monaco and Carrera.
Modern diving watch. Widely available in the secondary market. Good condition with box and papers is particularly important for value in this competitive category.
Entry-level and mid-range Tag Heuer. Value is more modest — condition, box, and papers matter most. Complete sets in excellent condition are the strongest sellers.
When Jack Heuer designed the Carrera in 1963, naming it after the deadly Mexican road race, he created a watch that has become one of the defining chronograph references of the 20th century. The Heuer brand — as it was called before the TAG acquisition in 1985 — produced a series of sports chronographs in the 1960s and 70s that are now among the most actively traded vintage watches in the world.
The distinction between vintage Heuer (pre-1986) and modern Tag Heuer is significant. A modern Carrera Heuer-01 is a competent sports watch that will trade at a discount from retail. A 1969 Carrera reference 2447 in excellent original condition is a collector's object that can command £3,000–£8,000 and rising. The difference is not the name on the dial but the era, the movement, and the originality.
If your watch says "Heuer" on the dial (without "Tag") — it was made before 1986 and is almost certainly worth more assessment than a modern Tag Heuer. The reference number and dial variant will determine by how much.

The modern Tag Heuer Monaco typically trades for £1,500–£3,500 depending on dial variant and condition. The vintage Heuer Monaco — particularly the original reference 1133B — commands significantly higher prices. A genuine early Heuer Monaco in good original condition can exceed £8,000–£15,000.
How much is my Tag Heuer Carrera worth?
Modern Tag Heuer Carrera references typically trade for £1,000–£2,800 in good condition. The vintage Heuer Carrera (pre-1986) can command £3,000–£8,000+ for fine examples. The written valuation identifies your specific reference and compares current sales.
Do you buy vintage Heuer watches?
Yes — vintage Heuer is one of the most actively collected areas in the vintage watch market. The Carrera, Monaco, Autavia, and Silverstone have a dedicated following. We assess every vintage Heuer individually against current auction and dealer prices.
Do I need box and papers for my Tag Heuer?
No. Most Tag Heuer watches we buy are sold without original box and papers. For certain modern limited editions, a full set adds a premium. For vintage Heuer, the absence of box and papers is normal.
What is the difference between Tag Heuer and Heuer?
Heuer refers to the company as it operated before 1986 when it was acquired and became Tag Heuer. Watches with "Heuer" on the dial (without "Tag") were made before 1986 and are generally more collectible. Vintage Heuer pieces from the 1960s and 70s — Carrera, Monaco, Autavia — command significantly higher collector prices than equivalent modern Tag Heuer references.
