A Rolex model name tells you almost nothing about its value. A Submariner can be worth £5,000 or £45,000 depending on the specific reference, dial, case condition, and era. Our written valuations identify the exact reference and variant, compare current completed sales, and explain every factor that has shaped the figure.
The following ranges are indicative only and based on recent secondary market completed sales. Actual values for your specific watch will depend on condition, originality, reference variant, and whether box and papers are present. These ranges should not be used as a substitute for a physical inspection valuation.
| Model | Typical range (2025–26 market) | Key value factors |
|---|---|---|
| Submariner (no date) | £6,500–£14,000 | Reference, case condition, bracelet, production era |
| Submariner (date) | £7,000–£18,000 | Reference, bezel insert, dial colour, box and papers |
| Datejust 36mm | £2,500–£9,000 | Dial variant, bezel type, bracelet, condition |
| Datejust 41mm | £4,000–£10,000 | Dial variant, box and papers, overall condition |
| GMT-Master II | £8,000–£22,000 | Bezel colour (Pepsi, Batman, Coke, Root Beer), reference |
| Daytona (steel, modern) | £16,000–£30,000 | Dial colour, ceramic vs. steel bezel, full set |
| Daytona (vintage manual-wind) | £6,000–£80,000+ | Reference, dial type (exotic / Paul Newman), case originality |
| Explorer I | £4,500–£8,000 | Reference, condition, box and papers |
| Explorer II | £4,500–£9,000 | Reference (Steve McQueen dial), condition |
| Oyster Perpetual | £3,000–£7,000 | Dial colour, size, condition |
| Day-Date (gold) | £10,000–£35,000+ | Metal type, dial variant, diamond setting, size |
| Vintage Rolex (pre-1980) | £1,500–£100,000+ | Reference, dial condition, case originality, specific variant |
These are indicative ranges only. A Daytona reference 6239 with a 'Paul Newman' exotic dial in fine unpolished condition can exceed £150,000. A Datejust with a refinished dial and heavily polished case may be below the lower end of the range. Physical inspection by a specialist is the only reliable basis for a selling decision.
The reference number is the starting point for any reliable Rolex valuation. On most Rolex made before approximately 2005, the reference number is engraved between the lugs at the 12 o'clock position and is visible when the bracelet or strap is removed. The serial number is between the lugs at 6 o'clock.
On Rolex made from approximately 2005 onwards, both the reference and serial number are engraved on the inner edge of the rehaut — the ring between the dial edge and the crystal. You can often read this with a close-up phone camera without removing the bracelet.
If you cannot identify the reference, send the watch to us and we will identify it as part of the valuation process.

Request a free Rolex valuation →How do I find out what my Rolex is worth?
The most reliable way is a physical inspection by a specialist who can identify your exact reference, assess dial and case condition, verify originality, and compare recent completed sales. Online price guides provide ranges, but Rolex values are so reference-specific that a model name alone is not useful.
Is a Rolex valuation from a photo accurate?
A photograph provides a starting point — not a valuation. The factors that most affect Rolex value (dial originality, case edge sharpness, movement condition, marker and hand originality) cannot be reliably assessed from a photograph.
How do I find my Rolex reference number?
On pre-2005 Rolex, the reference is between the lugs at 12 o'clock (requires removing the bracelet). On post-2005 Rolex, the reference and serial are on the inner rehaut and can often be read with a close-up phone camera.
Does Rolex provide free valuations?
Rolex boutiques do not provide market valuations for selling purposes. They can authenticate and service watches, but will not advise on secondary market value. For a selling valuation, you need a specialist buyer with current secondary market knowledge.
How long is a Rolex valuation valid?
Rolex secondary market values can change significantly within 12 months. A valuation from two or more years ago may be substantially out of date. Our valuations are based on current completed sales at a specific point in time.
