What carat means for value

Carat measures how much pure gold a piece contains: 24ct is pure gold, while 18ct is 75% gold, 14ct about 58% and 9ct 37.5%. The higher the carat, the more gold by weight — so carat and weight together, at the current market rate, determine the figure.

We test the carat of each item rather than relying on the stamp alone, and explain the result before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you buy every carat of gold?

Yes — 9, 14, 18, 22 and 24 carat are all bought. We test and weigh each piece and apply the current market rate for its carat.

What if my gold is not hallmarked?

We test the gold to establish its carat rather than relying on a stamp, so unmarked pieces can still be valued.

How quickly can I arrange a valuation?

Same-day or next-day appointments may be available, subject to availability. Contact us with a few details and we will arrange a suitable time.

Am I obliged to sell if I request a valuation?

No. A valuation and any offer are provided with no obligation. You are free to accept or decline.
